Decanter has teamed up with the California Wine Institute to create a special California experience for the guests attending this year’s Decanter Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter on 18 November.
This year’s Shanghai Encounter will see one of the Grand Tasting rooms at the Ritz-Carlton dedicated to the diversity and quality of California’s winegrowing regions.
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon from some of the state’s most renowned producers will be showcased.
Decanter’s Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter has become a must-attend event on the Chinese wine scene since its launch in 2012.
It provides a unique opportunity to meet some of the world’s most famous wine producers and taste their top vintages across a series of intimate masterclasses, as well as attend an unrivalled Grand Tasting event.
More about the California room
Despite the recent and tragic California wildfires, the California Wine Institute (CWI) and its members are working hard to bring some of the best wines this region could offer to the Chinese wine lovers.

• Dierberg, Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley 2013
• Lange Twins Estate, Centennial Zinfandel, Lodi 2011
• Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, FAY Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2014
Apart from the featured stands, there will also be an area in the room for tasting a broader selection of quality California wines covering a range of of sub-regions and grape varieties.
The highlight of the experience will be hourly tastings of some premium and rare fine wines from the Golden State, including:
• Screaming Eagle, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2014
• Harlan Estate, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2012
• Louis Martini Lot 1, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2003 & 2013
• Heitz Cellar, Martha’s Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 1987
