The Michelin Guide has just unveiled its top Shanghai restaurants for 2018.
Thirty restaurants were awarded stars, and Ultraviolet by French chef Paul Paire joined the elite club with three stars, according to the newly released Michelin Guide Shanghai 2018.

This is the second time Michelin has published a Shanghai guide.
Its inaugural guide last year caused controversy in China after some locals accused inspectors of favoring Cantonese restaurants and neglecting many other Chinese cuisines.
So far, Shanghai is the only mainland Chinese city with a dedicated Michelin guide.
On the newly released 2018 list, last year’s sole three starred restaurant - T’ang Court has retained its coveted status.
Ultraviolet was upgraded from two stars to three. It remains a mysterious operation with a single, 10-seat table and has never revealed its true location to the public. Diners are picked up by a shuttle bus at the downstairs of Bund 18, the location of another Paul Paire restaurant called Mr & Mrs Bund.
The average price of dinner at Ultraviolet is 4000-6000RMB (£448-671), and only a set menu of 20 courses is available.
Besides Ultraviolet, there were no other changes to the two-star category.
Four new restaurants got one star.
Last but not least, a further 27 restaurants were awarded ‘bib gourmands’, this latter category dedicated to restaurants offering ‘exceptional good food at moderate prices’, with average spending per person below 200RMB (£20) or less.
