Decanter partners with Amazon China to promote award-winning wineries
Decanter has partnered with Amazon China for the online retailer to offer price promotions on nearly 50 wines from medal-winning producers at last year's Decanter Asia Wine Awards.
It is the first time that Amazon has promoted wines using Decanter Asia Wine Awards (DAWA) branding and the move offers both parties an opportunity to raise their profile in a key emerging wine market.
Price cuts also offer China’s wine consumers the chance to broaden their palates.
Stoneleigh, which saw its 2012 vintage Sauvignon Blanc claim an International Trophy at DAWA 2013, heads a list of 49 wines from winning producers that Amazon is offering on promotion until the end of February.
'We are delighted to be partnering with Amazon.Cn, to give our DAWA 2013 winners the exposure and recognition they deserve in one of the world’s most promising wine markets,' said Decanter publishing director Sarah Kemp.
Aside from Stoneleigh, all other producers involved won a silver, bronze or a ‘commended’ medal for the wine style being sold via Amazon.
The online retailer does not always specify which vintage it is selling, but the exact vintage that won at DAWA is stated clearly alongside each wine being promoted, to avoid any confusion.
Separately, in Hong Kong, Decanter has also agreed for luxury hotel The Peninsula to promote a further four DAWA winners at its bars.
There were 2,023 medal winners at DAWA 2013, with 15 going on to claim the coveted International Trophies, including seven Australian wines. A Koshu from Japan won a regional trophy for the first time.
Last year marked the second edition of the annual awards, which drew a majority of its 44 judges from Asia and was jointly chaired by Jeannie Cho Lee MW and Decanter consultant editor Steven Spurrier.
Entries for this year's DAWA will be open from 1 April to 30 June inclusive.
The DAWA wines being promoted at The Peninsula will be:
2001 La Rioja Alta 904, Gran Reserva, Spain (Gold, International Trophy)
2012 Grace Gris de Koshu, Yamanashi, Japan (Gold, Regional Trophy)
2012 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand (Silver)
2012 Château d'Esclans Domaines Sacha Lichine, Provence, France (Silver)
